The End of Summer

Published by lornaruth at 10:16 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Labor Day Weekend for some means the last big vacation, picnic or camping trip of the Summer. To me, its just the end of Summer. I always feel a bit gloomy Labor Day weekend. The Summer is over and Winter is coming. The flowers have quit blooming and the vegetable garden is winding down. I look at the bottles of jam, green beans and tomatoes, and feel some satisfaction that the summer was not wasted, but it is gone too soon. Fall has a beauty all its own in the colorful foliage and the crispness in the air. Long walks are always enjoyable, as are the last few picnics up the canyon. Winter is coming and if it wasn’t for the holidays, I don’t think I could survive it.  The fresh falling snow is beautiful but the cold makes a time to hide in the house with a cup of hot chocolate. At my age I try to savor every moment of time as if it was my last season to be here on earth, but I can’t help longing for spring  and the feeling that life has renewed and everything is ok again.
